Since my last comment on this picture I have realised that it has been reproduced as a mirror image of the actual scene.Perhaps the original negative was placed wrong side up on the developer.It is looking north at greig street bridge not south.The two church towers shown on the left river bank should be on the right.The chimney could be at the elictricity power station which was beside the old swimming pool.

Any thoughts on where the smoking chimney is? Possibly Kingsmill, where hotel by same name now is.
This was I believe originally water powered but may have been converted to steam. Or what about Hilton Hospital if it was there at this time.
