Inshes District Park Inverness

Photograph taken 28th August 2012

Craig Phadrig (Patrick's Crag - vitrified fort and formerly home of Brude, King of the Pictish Nation) on far left, Ben Wyvis's twin humps in the centre, and Ord Hill, North Kessock on far right. The tops of the pillars of the Kessock Bridge can just be discerned below Ord Hill.

Apparently this is the first new public park to open in the City of Inverness for a century. The council has taken a strip of land which descends from Stevenson Road down to Sir Walter Scott Drive (effectively on the southern face of the north end of the Great Glen, behind - but now well within - Inverness City), and used it as parkland to divide the local area into two separate housing estates, thereby preventing building in future. This will ultimately ensure there is parkland and walking areas all the way down from Milton of Leys down to Drakies Estate, and the views to be had from phase 1 of this newly-opened idyllic setting were superb today. The sky was gorgious (glorious!) and the vista of Craig Phadrig and Craig Dunain (at the head of the Great glen) , and Ben Wyvis and Ord Hill (over the Moray Firth in Ross & Cromarty) was superb. The new trees in the park were a bit the worse for wear due to the strong south-westerly wind funnelling up the Great Glen - makes you wonder why the contractors only put short stakes on them!! all in all, a lovely spot, and one which will undoubtedly prove very popular with Invernessians.
